Zach Wilson & Braxton Berrios: The Stars of NY Football

Zach Wilson and Braxton Berrios are the stars of NY football right now.

It sort of hurts to write this as a Giants fan because it’s really safe to say that the last time a Jet was a star of any kind, it was Joe Namath.

For 16 years, there was one constant star and that was Eli Manning. Throughout his time, there were other stars that made up winning teams such as Victor Cruz, Justin Tuck, Osi, Toomer, Manningham, obviously Strahan, and literally so many more. So the fact that we simply do not have that right now is devastating especially when you have a name and athlete like Saquon Barkley.

I want more than anything for Daniel Jones to be a star because I believe he can get there and I truly believe and know that he can be a great quarterback but to the rest of the world, he’s overshadowed by the garbage that the rest of his team is. Saquon is not by any means playing up to his expectations and with the most unhelpful O-Lines, has had the most underwhelming comebacks so no. There really is no true star on the Giants.

Up in Florham Park, there might be. Zach Wilson. He is athletic and determined. I see the Jets building the team around him in the future.

Sure he hasn’t had a perfect season but he’s a rookie. Do you know how many rookies stink or just struggle in general? Rookie QBs don’t even always start.

As for Wilson on Sunday, we saw exactly how athletic and willing he is. He’s not scared to get hit and he’s not scared to sacrifice himself for his team like some other quarterbacks in the league…🙄

So let’s talk about important things when it comes to him. He has thrown 11 picks this year and has played 11 games. That’s not fabulous. BUT… he’s up for rookie of the week.

So here’s a valid question: Can the Jets be good or did they win because the Jaguars completely pitifully stink? I believe it’s a combination of the two but we definitely got to see more of Wilson’s potential.

Out of all of the games he’s played this season so far, he had the highest completion percentage against the Jags which is great. Plus, we got to see that gorgeous 52-yard touchdown he scored. It was sooooo exciting! Click here to watch it!

With this TD, he set a franchise record of the longest touchdown run by a quarterback in Jet’s history. Not to mention, he gave two tickets to a fan at a diner this week. Click here to watch the super special video. Snaps for Wilson.

As for Berrios, he’s scrappy. Being scrappy gets you recognition. On Sunday, Berrios scored a 102-yard kickoff return TD in the second quarter. Click here to watch it!

He racked in a total of 150 return yards against the Jags and became the first Jets player to score on a return since 2018.

Due to his performance, he earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Yayyyy! Berrios was drafted in the sixth round by the Patriots but was waived in late 2019 after they won the Super Bowl. He’s been with the Jets since they claimed him off waivers in September 2019. They clearly see something in him and now he’s demanding everyone’s attention. More snaps for Berrios.

All in all, I think it’s very telling that the Jets seem to have been the most exciting NY football team this past weekend and I say good for them.
