If you didn’t read the last blog post, I’m basically dissecting every NFL player who is in the last year of their contract or is thinking of retiring. In my last post, I wrote about Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, and Greg Olsen. In this post, I’m talking about Larry Fitzgerald, Adam Vinatieri, Sean Lee, and Drew Brees.
Enjoy!
LARRY FITZGERALD
Position: Wide Receiver
Team: Arizona Cardinals
Age: 36 years old
Contract: Contract is up.
Thoughts:
Larry Fitzgerald is an absolute Cardinals and NFL legend. I expect him to be in the Hall of Fame some day. Basically, last year, he was resigned to the Cardinals with a one-year contract. Therefore, he is a free agent this year in 2020. He has 16 season under his belt and that is something to be very proud of. Retirement has been speculated every year for him for a little while now, but I still think that he’s going to come back next year.
ADAM VINATIERI
Position: Kicker
Team: Indianapolis Colts
Age: 46
Contract: 1 year contract is up.
Thoughts:
He has had a very long career and happens to be the oldest kicker and player in the league. He is now an unrestricted free agent but if he is given an offer from another team that the Colts don’t match, then I don’t see him taking it. He’s been with the Colts since 2006. That is a very long time. If the Colts offer him a matched offer, then we’ll be seeing him on our tv’s, if not, he’s retired.
SEAN LEE
Position: Linebacker
Team: Dallas Cowboys
Age: 33 years old
Contract: Contract is up.
Thoughts:
Sean Lee is a great linebacker and had a fine and decent year. I say that because this year wasn’t as good as he was in past years but besides that fact, personally, I want to see him play again. He is in the last year of his contract with a team that isn’t going anywhere. What I mean by that, is that I don’t see any positive future for the Cowboys. I know that the Giants are a mess but I would also say that the Cowboys are as well. They are on a treadmill. They are continuously running towards something they can’t get which is a successful season. I don’t believe that Sean Lee deserves to be on this team. He’s only 33 years old and before he retires, which is a thought that he is contemplating, I want to see him play one more year on a different team to see if he’s really done. He stated days ago that he’s waiting and taking time to think over the decision and wants to see how his body feels. A tweet that caught much attention due to Dez Bryant’s response to it, stated that Jerry Jones let Jason Garrett completely waste the primes of multiple players (Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, DeMarcus Ware, etc.) including Sean Lee. I thought that this was interesting and I don’t quite know if I agree or disagree with it but I do know that I hope Sean Lee plays somewhere next year.
DREW BREES
Position: Quarterback
Team: New Orleans Saints
Age: 40 years old.
Contract: Becomes unrestricted free agent
Thoughts:
Alright, Drew Brees, AKA, future Hall of Famer, has me completely stuck. I legitimately don’t know what he is going to do. It’s not like he’s in terrible condition. To me, he physically looks fine and he has Michael Thomas who has only made his job easier. Let’s say he doesn’t retire. We don’t know what the Saints are thinking because as an unrestricted free agent, they have to match Brees’ highest offer from another team. The problem here, is that Brees’ backup, Teddy Bridgewater, could be a starter, which he has been for other teams in the past. We all saw that when Aaron Donald hurt Drew’s hand leading to surgery. I mean, the Saints simply don’t need Drew Brees because their backup is so good. They can’t go wrong either way. As I said, I really don’t know what he’s going to do. He is another player who has been on one team for a very long time. If he decides that he doesn’t want to go to another team or doesn’t want to move his family somewhere else, then he can look back at a very successful and legendary career. If not, then I will be very excited and interested to see what he does.
More posts to come on more players!
