Well, Now We Know Aaron Judge Can Play Second Base

My Concerns and What I Took From This Game and This Play

No, no, no, no, no. Why was Aaron Judge making the out at short stop?! Why was AARON JUDGE, RIGHT FIELDER FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES, MAKING THE OUT AT SHORT STOP BY COVERING SECOND BASE?!

Oh my Lord I think last night, my head could have spun around in a full circle and then spun off like a tea kettle. You have got to be kidding me. You’ve got to be kidding me.

For those of you who do not know, which you should because he’s amazing, Aaron Judge is the right fielder for the New York Yankees. If you are reading this post, you are most likely a baseball fan therefore know where the right fielder plays in the field.

For those of you who don’t know, the right fielder is far out on the grass on the right side of the field. Waaaaaaaaayyyy back. The position of short stop is between second and third base.

On the night of September 25, 2019, J.A Happ pitched to Matt Duffy. Duffy hit a grounder to third only to get past LeMahieu going to Tyler Wade in left field. In the meantime, LeMahieu is still near third but for whatever reason LeMahieu was a little down the third base line and I don’t know why. Didi was at short stop as he should be. Here is my question: WHY was Gleyber at third base and how did he get there. Did he think he was somehow going to make a play as a second baseman at shorts stop while Didi was already there? That’s not even a logical thought.

I would understand if he was on second base waiting for Wade to throw the cut off to Didi and for Didi to throw to Gleyber for the out at second since Duffy went for the double. But noooooo. Gleyber is all the way near third. Not just short stop. Third base.

I’m being serious when I ask what is he doing over there? Now listen, Gleyber didn’t have a good game at all but this is beyond struggling at the plate. Gleyber is such an exceptional player which is why this is surprising.

So picture this, LeMahieu is still at third, Didi’s at short, Wade is getting the ball about to throw to Didi for the cutoff. Didi has the ball and looks over and no. That’s not Gleyber. If you have to rewind the television or the video to make sure your eyes aren’t deceiving you like I had to do, then do it because you’re right. That’s not Gleyber because Gleyber is at third.  That is Aaron Judge. Didi throws to Judge and Judge runs to Duffy to tag him out as he’s running to third. What did LeMahieu thin was going to happen with him being down the third base line when the runner had already gotten home?

Judge ran all the way from right field. Why did we get to the point where our right fielder has to run to the infield to make a play when there are three men in that vicinity who should be able to make that play. It’s not even like he ran to second or first base as back up. He ran to the other side of the infield. Every single man on the roster and every single fan should be thankful for Aaron Judge. That was an amazing play that he made.

I know he’s made all these great plays before but I don’t want this play to go underrated because once again, our right fielder ran from right field to second base and tagged the runner out running to third.

Things like this in addition to the amount of strikeouts makes me so nervous for the playoffs. We’re talking contenders such as the Astros, Dodgers, and Twins. We have too many swings and misses. Maybe they’re tired of the regular season. Maybe they’re saving their energy or everything they have left for the postseason which I wouldn’t really agree with at all.

Overall, I just had to say something about this major play that happened. I never want to see an outfielder have to run to the other side of the field ever again. It’s almost embarrassing and nerve wracking.

If this happens again or happens during the postseason, I’ll have a conniption.

Let me set the record straight. I haven’t lost my hope. I haven’t lost my hope at all. I just want to point out how angered I am that a team that has come this far is still making these silly mistakes. I want to emphasize how great of a team this is and to see plays of this nature happen, it’s concerning.

My message to the Yankees:

Please try not to screw up for. Get a win. Win every game left in the regular season. When the postseason comes, we’re going to need some extra fire but as for now, just win the games. Be the savages you are. If you screw up, know that every Yankee fan out there is going to find a baseball bat and bang it onto the roof or ceiling of wherever they are in true Gardy style. That’s a terrifying scene so don’t let it happen.

Everyone knows your better than what we’ve seen these past few games. Everyone including yourselves. You’ve got your teammates to lean on. You’ve got your coaches and staff and front office. You’ve got everyone in the booths and in the stands. You’ve got everyone at home. You’ve got everyone rooting for you so fix it, be savages, and Make. It. Happen. Go Yanks.
